Glacier National Park is located in Northwestern Montana near the towns of Whitefish and Kalispell. Just south of The Canadian Provinces of British Columibia and Alberta. Near Highway 89 to the east and Highway 2 to the South. Often referred to as "The Crown of The Continent", for obvious reasons as Glacier National Park is blessed with spectacular scenery. Some of the mountains rise over 10,000 ft., and several large, deep lakes (St. Mary Lake, Lake McDonald) offer a stunning contrast to the landscapes. Lots of wildlife can be seen from the main road, aptly named "Going to The Sun" Road, including bighorn sheep and mountain goats. Grizzly and black bears are here, but rarely seen and so are mountain lions. Visitors will also be able to see the natural beauty of glaciers, rivers, creeks, u-shaped mountain valleys, and of couse the famous "horn" shaped mountains. Also notable is that Glacier National Park is a convergent point of 4 different species types: Prairie Species from the East, Maritime Species from the West, Northern Rock Mountain Species from the North, Southern Rock Mountain Species from the South. Coming from the East across Montana, Glacier National Park Rises from flatland prairies to sharp, majestic peaks very abrubtly.
