Grand Canyon National Park is located in Northern Arizona about an hour north of Flagstaff, just south of the Utah border. Near Highway 89 to the east and Interstate 40 to the South. Grand Canyon was formed by the Colorado River over many years as the rushing water carved away the canyon walls. At it's deepest points, the Grand Canyon descends over a mile down, exceeds 7,000 ft elevation on the South Rim and over 8,000 ft on the North Rim. Lots of wildlife can be seen including elk, bighorn sheep, mountain lions, squirrels, mule deer and many birds. Visitors will also be able to see diverse natural environments from deserts on the canyon floor, riparion areas where the water flows, pinyon-juniper forests, and ponderosa pine and montaine forests on the South and North Rims. Also notable is the different squirrel species on the different rims. The North Rim's Kaibab squirrel has differrent colors than the South Rim's Albert squirrel. Grand Canyon is a must see to believe experience as photographs cannot capture the size and scale of such an immense landscape.
