Yosemite National Park is located in Eastern California about an 4 hours east of San Francisco, just West of the Nevada border. Near Highway 120 and 140 to the east and Highway 41 to the South. Yosemite is categorized into 4 distinct geographic areas – High Sierra, Granite Cliffs, Sequoia Groves and the Valley. The famous John Muir described the Yosemite Valley by saying "It is by far the grandest of all the special temples of nature I was ever permitted to enter." Yosemite continues to inspire people from around the globe with it's spectacular views, including the majestic peaks of Half Dome and El Capitan. Mountain climbers have long held Yosemite as a favorite spot. The many waterfalls including Bridal Veil Falls and the Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls must be seen and heard to fully appreciate their size and beauty. Diverse wildlife inhabits Yosemite including black bears, mule deer, falcons, bats, pikas, marmots and many other rodents and birds. In late Summer the Merced River gently flows through the Valley floor , but in early Spring, the river can be a raging torrent with all the melting snow from the High Sierra country.
